15th Edition

Happy Independence Jubilee to every Sierra Leonean! The land that we all love is 50 this year. We thank God we are witnesses to this historical event. Though the road has been rough, we have survived Fifty years of self-rule. What will tomorrow bring?

As planners go to their drawing boards to map out strategies to make Sierra Leone a better place in the next 50 years, so did this edition of SierraEye Magazine.

We took the time to sample the views of children on certain issues of national relevance as the country clocks 50 and ask what their hopes are for the next 50 years.

Children constitute a major segment in a given society. They are indisputably the carriers of nation’s hope and pride.

Peter Penfold is a name many Sierra Leoneans would hardly forget. Sierra Leonean found a place in his heart

long after his service as the British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone. He still finds time to visit a country where he was made a paramount chief and even contributed to the charitable needs of a segment of its population. His fondness for the people of Sierra Leone will guarantee him a spot in Sierra Leone’s history.

As preparations are in top gear from the country to celebrate its 50th Jubilee anniversary, Mr. Penfold speaks to Sierra Leoneans through this edition of SierraEye Magazine, highlighting crucial issues of national interest close to his heart.

Still in the jubilee independence mook, we have a special piece on the need for Sierra Leoneans to be proud of the religious tolerance we have upheld since 1961. How many countries in the world over yearn for such a privilege and the need for Sierra Leoneans need to guard this unique quality from being punctured by any political ideology that has the tendency to destroy the last greatest Sierra Leonean virtue of global envy.
