The All People’s Congress (APC) has announced plans to hold a high-level national press conference on Friday, 14 August 2026, during which party leadership will address what it describes as two critical issues confronting Sierra Leone: ongoing constitutional developments and the growing drug menace affecting the country.
According to a press release issued on 12 August 2026, APC stated that the engagement will focus on what the party termed an “ongoing constitutional abrogation” as well as the escalating drug epidemic, which it says continues to damage Sierra Leone’s international image and pose serious challenges to young people across the country.
The press conference is scheduled to take place at APC Party Headquarters in Freetown and is expected to begin at 10:30 a.m.
In its statement, APC indicated that the event is intended to provide an opportunity for the party to publicly articulate its position on recent constitutional developments while also outlining its perspective on efforts required to confront the country’s drug crisis.
Party leadership has extended invitations to a broad range of stakeholders, including local and international media organisations from both print and electronic platforms, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the international community, civil society organisations, party executives, supporters, and members of the general public.
According to the release, APC believes both issues carry significant national importance and require wider public engagement.
The party further encouraged stakeholders to participate in what it described as a pivotal national conversation, noting that the gathering will provide a platform for discussions surrounding constitutional governance and challenges posed by drug abuse.
APC also called for attendees to be seated by 10:15 a.m. to facilitate a timely and orderly commencement of proceedings.
