The winners of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will receive a new symbol of football glory after FIFA announced that the champions will be awarded custom-made championship rings alongside the iconic World Cup trophy and gold medals. It will be the first time in the history of any FIFA competition that championship rings are presented to the winning team.

The announcement comes ahead of the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, scheduled for 19 July 2026 at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

According to FIFA, the rings are inspired by a long-standing tradition in American sports, where championship-winning teams in competitions such as the NFL, NBA, and MLB receive commemorative rings to mark their achievements.

FIFA revealed that only 2,026 rings will be produced, a tribute to the 2026 tournament. Of that number, 30 rings will be reserved for the winning team, while the remaining 1,996 rings will be made available to supporters worldwide as official licensed products.

Each ring will be individually numbered and custom-fitted. One side will feature the famous FIFA World Cup trophy, while the other side will be personalised to reflect the identity of the winning nation. Every ring will also come with its own certificate of authenticity.

Immediately after the final, the winning team’s captain and head coach will receive temporary rings as part of the celebrations. The final customised versions will be produced and officially presented at a later date.

The move represents another attempt by FIFA to blend elements of North American sports culture into the World Cup experience. While some fans have welcomed the idea as a unique keepsake for champions, others have questioned whether such traditions belong in football, arguing that the World Cup trophy and winners’ medals have always been sufficient symbols of success. Community discussions online have reflected both excitement and criticism about the introduction of the rings.

For the players who lift the World Cup this weekend, the reward will now go beyond football’s most coveted trophy. Alongside the medals and global recognition that come with becoming world champions, they will also receive a personalised ring designed to serve as a lifelong reminder of their achievement.

Whether embraced as a welcome innovation or viewed as an unnecessary addition, the championship rings are set to become one of the lasting legacies of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
